Students in the McKinney School of Rock music program are learning how to play by jamming together with his or her fellow students.  By taking the focus off the individual and creating a team dynamic, students enjoy a more supportive and motivating environment in which to learn. 

As a result, kids feel more inspired to excel and to help their team to victory at the big show.  More importantly, the team dynamic makes it fun to practice and allows kids to become more invested in the learning process.

10Rock n roll is the heart and soul of what we do. 

From AC/DC to Zeppelin, The Beatles to the White Stripes, we use the best Rock music from the 60’s through today to inspire kids to WANT to practice and want to learn. Rock music is a “language” that cuts across all genres and “speaks” to kids in a very real and inspirational way. It is this focus and dedication that allows us to be the best at what we do.

 9We unleash talent and confidence by performing music.

We were founded in 1998 on the philosophy that kids actually learn faster and gain more confidence when there are rewards for their achievements. They are motivated by their desire to play more often and the positive peer pressure that arises when performing in front of hundreds or even thousands of screaming fans in the audience.

  8Our instructors live to play and play to live.

Every single teacher at the School of Rock is actively involved in the local, and in many cases national and international music scene. There are tons of people out there that can teach an instrument, but our teachers are hand-picked based not just on their musical merit, but on their ability to connect with and inspire kids! We have the most passionate “real” rock musicians teaching our students to become passionate about learning, playing, and understanding the majesty of music.

Imagine a child that wants to learn how to play basketball. Would you buy them a ball, teach them how to dribble and shoot, and then send them alone to their rooms to practice? Unfortunately, this was how traditional music lessons occurred when a child wanted to learn an instrument. There were no options for practicing with a “team” or to hear the roar of a crowd. At School of Rock, kids are placed into seasonal “shows” with other students and perform real rock concerts throughout the year.

Our students come from all social and economic backgrounds, and all kids are treated with equal amounts of respect and encouragement. We believe that talent can be unleashed and is something people develop. It is our mission to inspire EVERY student to reach their goals!

5Our program rocks! Literally!

Our educational program is more comprehensive than conventional music lessons. Kids stick with it longer, learn much faster, and become much more than simply proficient in their instruments. Students average 12-18 hours of instruction per month, and also are encouraged to come to the school to practice and work with their peers to become even stronger musicians.

 4Our students have the best opportunities to show their talent.

Based on our size, the skill of our growing population of students, and our deep connections into the music community locally and across the U.S., our students are given amazing opportunities. Just a few examples include; performing at Dallas Stars, Dallas Maverick’s, and Texas Legends’ games and performing live on local and national radio programs

 3It’s not just a music school, it is a music club.

School of Rock is MORE than just a music program, and it is more than just a building with lesson rooms. Every student that joins the School of Rock is part of an accepting, honest, diverse rock n’ roll club. We have a culture beyond the classroom and stages, and every student is a part of that culture. Our owners, staff, and teachers take great pride in fostering the coolest environment, where our students are welcome anytime. When you sign up at the School of Rock, you can come anytime to hang out with peers, use our equipment to practice, or rehearse with other students.

We focus on education, musically and otherwise! Yes, we teach students and give them a platform to showcase their music talents, but our students come away with even more than a love for music. They gain confidence, learn social skills (such as public speaking and performing), become more accountable and responsible, and gain an appreciation for the amount of time and discipline it takes to learn an art form. Our mission is to have a positive impact on all facets of kid’s lives!
